UN Resolution A/RES/66/209, entitled Promoting the efficiency, accountability, effectiveness and transparency of public administration by strengthening supreme audit institutions, is one of two resolutions by the United Nations General Assembly that deal with the work of SAIs.
The resolution highlights the importance of independent and effective SAIs for improving governance and achieving the Millennium Development Goals. It notes with appreciation the work of INTOSAI and encourages all UN members to continue to work with INTOSAI to strengthen the role and capacity of SAIs.
Resolution 66/209 is an important document for SAI independence.
The resolution was passed on 22 December 2011 during the 91st plenary meeting of the Assembly's 66th session. It was adopted without a vote.
It was reaffirmed and slightly expanded upon in December 2014 through UN Resolution A/RES/69/228.
